At Pigi Villas, our design ethos marries contemporary sophistication with a profound respect for the vernacular architecture of Crete, offering a modern interpretation of traditional Cretan buildings. Rooted in a contextual understanding of the region's history, our design endeavors to harmonize with the local landscape, drawing inspiration from the earth itself.
The color palette of the villas pays respect to the rich hues of the Cretan soil, infusing warmth and a sense of rootedness into the architecture. Utilizing local stone and textures, we have seamlessly woven the essence of the surroundings into the design, creating a dialogue between the built environment and the natural landscape. Landscaped terraces, screens, and shades crafted from indigenous materials not only serve functional purposes but also contribute to the overall aesthetic, embodying a contemporary expression of the Cretan vernacular.
One of the key features of our design is the strategic placement of elements to filter light and frame breathtaking views of the mountains. This intentional play of light and shadow not only enhances the visual experience within the villas but also establishes a profound connection with the natural beauty that surrounds them. Bringing us closer to the true Cretan spirit, the life on the mountains.
To deepen the project's connection to the historical fabric of Cretan villages, heavy timber doors and panels are incorporated, infusing the villas with a timeless quality reminiscent of traditional craftsmanship. The project is a marriage of contemporary design and cultural heritage, linking past and presence through a sense of continuity with the architectural legacy of the region, embracing the vernacular aesthetics of Crete, harmonizing with the local landscape, and integrating elements that echo history.
