Program: Office Building
Status: Schematic Design
The Office Building in Heraklion embodies a harmonious fusion of functionality and aesthetics, nestled within the urban landscape of downtown. Its square grid plan seamlessly integrates with the setbacks of the site, allowing for the creation of private gardens on the side and back yards, providing a serene oasis amidst the bustling environment.
Elevated on a pilot system, the ground floor is opened up further, offering space for a small reception area and parking for both guests and occupants. The building's grid plan resembles a Tetris puzzle in massing, creating a dynamic interplay of forms and voids. To enhance connectivity and visual interest, box modules are subtracted to form atrium and terrace spaces, cascading towards the roofscape. This strategic subtraction ensures a balanced composition while maintaining the building's overall integrity, projecting a strong commercial image.
The facade is adorned with limestone panels and dark painted aluminum, forming a bold orthogonal vertical grid that accentuates the building's verticality. A base of white bricks acts as a pedestal, elevating the structure and imbuing it with a contemporary classical language.
